TagU / Co-founder / 2023

Feedback,
in its place.

A Chrome extension I co-founded so teams could leave comments directly on a webpage. Tag an element, leave a note, and bring a teammate back to the exact spot.

Less explaining.
More context.

A screenshot can show a problem, but the conversation often drifts away from the page. TagU kept feedback beside the element a person was talking about: a bug, a design change, or an instruction.

Teammates could leave comments and sticky notes, tag each other, and return to the relevant location from a browser notification.

Inside the browser.
Across contexts.

The extension and the page

I worked on the application architecture and navigation, then injected React components into webpages through Manifest V3. The extension and the injected interface ran in separate JavaScript contexts, so I built the messaging between them.

Accounts and shared feedback

I implemented email, Google, and Facebook authentication with Supabase, designed the data model, and added database functions and triggers. My work included comments, team notifications, the tag list, and urgency filtering.

From interest to payment

I built the landing page and Stripe payment flow, including seat-based pricing for a lifetime offer. I shared progress publicly, asked for design feedback, and invited people to test the beta.

Building with a small team

We worked asynchronously across countries. I organized tasks and recorded explanations of complex code so teammates could pick up the work. I also prepared the extension for Chrome Web Store beta review.

The first people
who said yes.

On June 19, 2023, I shared that TagU had 37 waitlist signups and had sold four lifetime deals. It was my first build-in-public product to receive a payment.

The website is no longer available. This page keeps the product story and my work on it in one place.
